Turtle G. Thetrue, a young witch with powers of chlorokinesis, is a character that was present in lore during Season 4. Turtle is a workaholic magic enthusiast with a lifelong goal to be able to fly-- a goal that is an impossible feat due to her magic inhibitor. Due to being a survivor of the violent Hurricane Johannes that struck the Verdant Delta, Turtle developed astraphobia (intense fear of thunderstorms). Formerly part of a family of nomadic witches, Turtle is a resident of Azalea Town, where she is responsible for the upkeep of the giant azalea tree and supplying the village people with crops.
Early Life
Turtle spent most of her adolescence on the move. Raised by her parents Samson and Mari Thetrue, and her older sibling Emkel Thetrue, they found that Turtle had exceptionally powerful chlorokinesis (manipulation/summoning plants and vegetation). As was the case with the magic users of the Thetrue bloodline, Turtle was born with an "inhibitor", or counterbalance to her magical power. Turtle's inhibitor made it so she would be incapable of flight via magic spell or by wings. This forced the Thetrue family to travel by boat or by land, something that troubled the young Turtle, knowing that her parents were capable of aerokinesis (manipulation/summoning winds). Emkel was not capable of flying with their own powers of hydrokinesis (manipulation of water), they had no such inhibitor of flight, able to be carried along their parents' winds if need be. Turtle often confided in Emkel about her worries, constantly fretting that she was unhelpful and slowing down their travels, worrying that she wouldn't be able to keep up with everyone if they needed to ascend quickly. Emkel would consistently be there to ease her concerns, telling her that she was just as capable as the rest of them. Despite this, Turtle would repeatedly express her desire to somehow be able to fly with them.
When Turtle was around the age of 8, the Thetrue family was travelling in the middle of a large mangrove swamp that surrounded the Verdant Delta when Hurricane Johannes struck the area. Aware that there was some civilization nearby, Turtle's family members decided that they would try to push the hurricane in a different direction in an attempt to spare the towns from destruction. Before the three departed to try and fight the hurricane, Emkel hurriedly rushed Turtle into a hollow tree, telling her to close the gaps of the tree to protect herself from the storm, and to only come out when she heard the rain stop. Turtle remained in the tree for several hours, frightened by the sounds of thunder and unrelenting rain. The rain eventually let up somewhat, but hadn't quite stopped before Turtle sensed leaking magic. Departing from the hollow tree, she followed the presence of magic until she found the bodies of her parents and sibling, who had succumbed to the hurricane's wrath. In her grief, she inadvertantly grew a small azalea tree in the middle of the mangrove swamp, burying all three members of her family under it, tearfully wishing them a safe journey to the Valley of the Clouds.
Turtle travelled somewhat aimlessly until she came upon the village her family had managed to somewhat save from the hurricane, Azalea Town. Turtle was taken in by some villagers and took to growing and tending to fields of crops. Eventually, she settled on top of a hill in Azalea Town, where she devoted all of her off time into figuring out a way to fly.
Main Lore
Having grown up and taken on more responsibilities as an Azalean citizen, Turtle spent a majority of her time farming and harvesting crops, as well as maintaining the well-being of the giant azalea tree. In the early stages of the rivalry between Azalea Town and Mangrove Town, Turtle participated in a prank that involved the overgrowth of numerous azalea trees that covered Mangrove Town. Despite this, Turtle had relatively few altercations with residents of Mangrove Town She did, however, vehemently reject the preachings from members of the Church of Lord Dunce.
While experimenting in attempts to make a flight potion, Birch (one of Turtle's pet frogs) ran off with Turtle's singular remaining supply of pink tulips, leading her on a wild goose chase throughout the mangrove swamp. Towards the end of her pursuit of Birch, Turtle realized that she had stumbled upon a secluded lagoon -- more notably she sensed the overwhelming amount of magical energy coming from the area. Realizing she was probably trespassing, she decided to leave behind her last pink tulip as a peace offering. Unbeknownst to her, she had been spotted by a watcher named Magz who had jumped timelines and was trying to lay low. Magz left Turtle a written warning in her home, telling her to not come back to the area.
Adhering to the message, Turtle for the most part stayed clear of Magz's lagoon, though because she could sense the copious amounts of magical energy coming from the area, subconsciously she was drawn to it, having to forcibly remind herself to not trespass.
However, during a visit to the graves of her family, Turtle found herself caught in the middle of a thunderstorm. Frightened, Turtle ran to the nearest source of shelter-- a stable in the secluded lagoon.
